We allocate accommodation (single rooms, single apartments and flats with shared facilities) in the order in which the applications are received.

The flat with shared facilities can only be rented to a group wanting to share. The group must consist of three, four or five students depending on the number of rooms available, e.g. a 4-room flat for four students.

In the case of single rooms or single apartments, the average waiting times are between 2 and 6 months, except for the single apartments in the student residences ‘Scharnhorststraße 10’, 'Wilhelmskamp, Steinfurter Straße 67-81', 'Hansa Haus, Albersloher Weg 1', ‘Rudolf-Harbig-Weg 14-46’, and 'Rudolf-Harbig-Weg 55-61'. Here waiting times of approx. 12 to 24 months should be expected.

An online-application or a written (formal) application with photo (application form can be downloaded from the link at the bottom of this page).

!!! First-year students may apply without a university entrance admission or a registration certificate/semester enrolment slip.

Submitting an application does not incur any obligation, but does not automatically entitle the applicant to a place in a student residence either.

 

Who is entitled to apply?

Students who are officially registered at the

• Westfälischen Wilhelms-Universität Münster
• University of Applied Sciences of Münster
• Catholic College – ‘Katholische Hochschule’
• Münster Academy of Fine Arts
• Münster Department of the Detmold School of Music
• Participants registered at the ‘Studienkolleg’ or a language course offered by Wilhelms-Universität Münster
• Participants registered at the 'KSHG' and at the language study centre of the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster.

In order to finalise a lease agreement we require the following documents:

• Recent photo (unless already enclosed with the application)
• For students who are already enrolled: Registration certificate / the semester enrolment slips for the summer or the winter semester
• For first-year students: A copy of the university’s / the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service’s admission (for enrolment in Münster).
• German bank account details.
• For foreign students: A passport with a valid visa / residence permit

Moving in before Registration

On request a room can be rented two months before registration, if a correct written application has been submitted.

 

Rental Period

The total rental period is eight semesters, if the tenant moves into another student residence, the term of the previous lease is deduced from the maximum rental period. On request the lease agreement may be extended beyond the total rental period.

 

Student Support Services Studentenwerk Münster will notify the applicants

1. by phone (within German)
2. by letter to the applicant’s mailing address, or otherwise by e-mail to the e-mail address.

Written confirmation (by e-mail) of receipt of your application is only possible in the case of on-line applications.
